Great interview with Chas Hodges earlier this year, for the longer doc film about Street Pianos that we’ve been making this past year.
Asking him bout why the street pianos seem to affect people so much he said:-
” Music is so good for you, you wonder sometimes why it isn’t made illegal”
Wonderful. Chas has lived his whole life with the piano at the centre – from pubs and front rooms to gigs and TV. His mum played pub piano, his grandma played and his daughter Kate Garner www.kategarnermusic.com plays old time stride and sing along piano too. She has a beautiful voice. Chas loves the idea of more street pianos. He is on tour now with Dave. The audience join in without him even asking – he says -‘I never say All join in, cos sometimes you don’t feel like singing’ – but no matter what part of country he in – the audience spontaneously sings along at the very same part – in Aint No Pleasing You, just like in the pubs. I want to be there.
