Happy Birthday Herne Hill Piano 2 years Old!!
Piano Playing stops Rain!
Despite a heavy downpour Herne Hill Square filled with a crowd keen to wish Herne Hill Piano a Happy Birthday.
Music filled the square at 4pm when Luke opened the party sparkling the keys and the rain stopped, clearly stunned into submission.
We had Freddy storming the piano Rockin and a Rollin, Georgia on my Mind from Pat and Jay, soulful Karim, Bianca on ukelele, Composers, Lindy Hop dancing, 2 year olds – and 80 year old Melvyn, Anthony with special guest Rachel – Bach, Blues and Jazz. Four and a Half hours of endless surprises as only H H Piano knows how.
Maureen said “ I think Glastonbury has serious competition now – we had music and we had rain and we had great vibes – only this one was FREE!! “
Elaine the Flower Lady spoke beautifully to the crowd about how much the piano means to her and Alan from Pullens came out ceremoniously wielding a knife,- to cut the cake!
“Without Alan and Elaine, Roy the tuner and Giles sorting the lock – the piano may not have survived the 2 years. They quietly take great care of it – and I am sure that is why it has survived long enough to gather such a following and even star in the film.”
The response to our short film ‘The Peoples Piano’ has been overwhelming. We have had so much interest in a longer film that it has spurred us on to do a fundraising campaign to enable us to do just that. “Everybody loves that piano – we have seen in Herne Hill that there is something exceptional about street pianos and the next film will explore that in depth.”
